How is Lokta Paper made?
Lokta paper is made by hand from the inner bark of the Himalayan Daphne papyrus shrub, a sustainable process involving stripping bark, boiling it for hours to soften fibers, pounding it into a pulp with water, spreading it onto wooden frames for sun-drying, and finally smoothing the sheets, often with added natural dyes or petals for decoration. This traditional, tree-free method results in incredibly durable, insect-resistant paper with distinctive deckled edges.
